In his journey from Jamaica through Florida and Toronto to Vancouver, B Kenyan has acquired the skills of an important trade and the passion to turn them into a business, a social hub and a contribution to the culture.
Ice Kol Kut, located on the Drive and founded in 2010, specializes in urban hair grooming, but that’s not the whole story: it’s a place where you can get a trim or a colouring, but also a spot for lounging, bonding and helping build the larger urban culture.
Proprietor Kenyan takes this aspect of his shop seriously: “We’re building a community here,” he says. That community includes the city’s youth, professional athletes, visiting musicians and local artists of all types. Kenyan himself is a reggae recording artist, with a new album, Confident, out now.
